Blogreaders Quest: Save the Internet from the evil forces of Dullness
Evil forces have in the dark of the night moved in on the sacred webservers and threatened to destroy all webpages, which give meaning to the inhabitants of the human race. Soon pages like facebook, youtube, Instagram and twitter can be destroyed forever.
The leaders of the free world have secretly met and discussed the options on how to save the human race, and came to one frightening conclusion: One hero must go on a secret mission and slay the evil forces of dullness, and YOU are their final hope!
The human race is in your hands!
The idea of the quest
My objective with this blogpost is to write about gamification and the elements within. While making my disposition for the blogpost I came up with the idea of actually giving you the possibility to “feel” the elements instead of just reading about them. I therefore hope that you will play along, and hereby experience the different aspects of gamification.
I have studied different models / views on gamification and must admit that the preferred model is “octalysis” presented by Yu-kai Chou (http://www.yukaichou.com).
Thanks for the inspiration!
How to play and learn
On your journey throughout the quest, you will experience challenges you have to overcome in order to continue. Between the challenges, there will be pages, which gives you the next part of the story. At the bottom of these pages you will also find a short description of the gamification element(s) you just experienced and examples from other sites where these elements are used.
Do your best, there are prizes to be won…
All users who make it to the Hall of Fame at the end of the quest will take part in the draw for prizes. There are two prizes which will be handed out; a prize (basket with redwine and goodies) for customers, business contacts and external readers of the blog, and a second prize (Nerd t-shirt) for Vertica employees.
The winners will be found Monday January 6th, 2014 and notified directly. You can also find the winners on our blog afterwards.
Let me know in the comments below what you think, and if you have any improvements to the quest or theory.
